Production of Beta 4.0 is well under way. The
reason for the long length of time with no release is because this
beta is being changed quite a bit, both in design and gameplay.
The list below are highlights of Beta4.0 that are currently planned,
but may or may not be present at the release. This list may
change at any time, and isn't a guarantee to have certain parts in. |

|
| |
All Levels Redone |
|
| |
|
All levels are being redone to match the newer map
setup. Some parts of past levels may return but not
completely. Some levels will feel to have elements closer to
"Sonic" with "Mario" sprites and items. |

Different Graphics Tilesheets |
|
| |
|
I'm testing a different tilesheet over the SMW tilesheet.
It is more detailed than the original. |
|
| |
360* Gravity |
|
| |
|
Sonic can now run along flat edges when at effecient speeds.
Loops are now possible, and also some Super Mario Galaxy styled
areas. |
|
| |
Attacks |
|
| |
|
All characters will have a moveset with attacks, by using the
Action button. At time of release to be, this should be
working but may not be perfected and timing might be slow.
Might need help getting sprites for good movesets but I'll do what I
can do. |
|
| |
Tougher Enemies with AI |
|
| |
|
Goombas will now charge at you on sight, like they do now in the
3D Mario games. Plans are ready for Koopa and Piranha Plants. |
|
| |
Different Mid-Boss |
|
| |
|
Not developed yet and still may change. Hint: This
one is common for a first boss in a Mario game now. |
|
| |
Different Hit System |
|
| |
|
Depending on the attack occurred on the player, different things
may happen, even be sent flying. |
|
| |
Different Story Mode Setup and Single Player
Modes |
|
| |
|
There will be two Story modes to select (three in the end),
Mario and Sonic. Additional characters won't get their own
Story mode but will appear as playables in either Mario or Sonic's
story. There will two other modes to unlock in this section;
Custom Play and Free Play. More to come when development
proceeds. |
|
| |
Vs Mode Updated |
|
| |
|
Hopefully... but it will change to allow the new hit
system |
|
| |
Gamepad Focused |
|
| |
|
The game will now be focused on using a GamePad, with at least
one direction pad and four buttons. The game will be fully
influcented to use a gamepad similar to the PlayStation ones; one
direction pad, two joysticks, and eight buttons. Here is the
rough idea:
* direction pad - movement and navigation, same as now
* joystick [left] - movement and navigation. An option
will be available to use the Dash function with this.
* joystick [right] - inventory, see below
* four face buttons - if inventory is enabled, three buttons
will be used: Jump, Dash, Use Item. Otherwise, four buttons
will be used: Jump, Dash, Action, Block
* shoulder buttons - only if inventory is enabled:
Action [L1], Block [R1], Inventory Left [L2], Inventory Right [R2]
* START button - I hope to get pause working...
You will still be able to use the customizable keyboard setup, but
again, gamepads will be the better focus. You will not need to
use inventory if you do not wish. On a side note, rumble will
not be supported. |
|
| |
Inventory during Level Play |
|
| |
|
First off, this is only if you enable inventory. If you
dont have shoulder buttons or one joystick (excluding the direction
pad), you can't use inventory directly. When inventory is on,
some items (like non-poison mushrooms) will not instantly activate.
They will go into your inventory as the current selection, and can
instantly used by activating the Use function. The Use
function is done by using pressing Up on the right joystick or
pressing the associated button. Pressing the right joystick
left or right does the same with your inventory. Inventory is
planned to have items grouped and no limit is expected. |

New Powerups |
|
| |
|
Reflecting five elements; Fire (fire flower), Water (ice
flower), Earth (???), Wind (leaf), Lightning (???) |
|
| |
New Healthbar System |
|
| |
|
Nuff said... |
|
| |
Tag System |
|
| |
|
Still under development. Later in Story mode, you'll be
able to switch characters on your team. Doubtful that an
AI-controlled follower will be available. It's currently
planned to have a special button (will replace one of the above
mentioned) or Up+Block |

Here is a small note for when the Beta is released.
It will be labelled "Dirty", as in Not-Cleaned-Up. This means
that most memory effienet methods won't be working, and most
computers will need alot of memory until things get organized.
Expected release date is unknown |
